Mistake 1: Outdated prices + dishes
Most common mistake: menu printed in 2023, staff have been charging different prices for 6 months. Guests feel duped, staff apologize at every table.
Fix: digital menu alongside the printed one. With MenuMagic you change prices in the dashboard — guests on the QR code see the current version instantly. The printed one then updates every 3-6 months.

Mistake 2: Allergens "available on request"
Since 2014 (EU FIC), allergens must be labeled per dish, not "ask staff". Penalty: €50-10,000 per inspection.
Fix: letter codes with legend (A=gluten, C=eggs, G=milk …) or symbols directly on the dish. MenuMagic auto-detects all 14 EU allergens on photo upload and inserts the codes. More in the allergen guide.
03
Mistake 3: German only — even with 30% tourists
Tourist areas (Berlin Mitte, Munich Marienplatz, Hamburg Speicherstadt) often see 30-50% international visitors. Staff translate, eating 5-10 minutes per table — and tourists usually order "what they understand" = Pizza Margherita.
Fix: multilingual menu via QR. MenuMagic translates to 14 languages automatically (EN, IT, FR, ES, TR, RU, AR, ZH, JA, KO …). Proper names stay (Carbonara stays Carbonara), only the description translates.

Mistake 4: 30+ items on one menu
Menus with 15+ mains are industry crime #4. Choice fatigue (Iyengar 2000): guest skims, picks the simplest familiar thing, orders less or nothing.
Fix: trim to 5-7 mains plus 2-3 rotating daily specials. Sounds like reduction — but means: higher margins, less inventory, fresher ingredients, faster kitchen.

Mistake 5: No QR menu = tourists google you
2024 study: 78% of restaurant visitors under 40 check the menu on their phone before deciding on a restaurant. If you don't have a digital menu, they walk on to the next one that does.
Fix: QR menu at the table + on the door (see QR menu guide). Even when the guest is already inside — the menu now comes in their language, with allergens, with sold-out tags. A service advantage many German restaurants still ignore.
